Hey all,
Wondering what your thoughts are re: Peggy receiving that offer from Duck. It's hard to imagine her leaving, yet, she is absolutely right that she deserves a better deal. Kinsey is a pretentious douche who seemingly contributes very little creatively. Smitty nailed the Martinson's account, and seems competent, but no one flashes Peggy's brilliance besides Don. Also, Peggy's storyline is extremely compelling. She's becoming that woman who knows how to get what she wants. Curious as to what you may think will happen next in her character progression. I am really hoping that Don goes to bat for her, and soon. Thanks. |

Right around this time, small creative agencies started breaking off from the bigger advertising firms. I'd like to see Don leave and start his own place and take Peggy with him. Maybe she could be a partner. Somebody pointed out that Don got 12% of the company value when the British bought them out. He is rich and could afford to go out on his own.

I think both are possibilities. Peggy could certainly leave and still be a central character. For some reason I don't feel like Duck is just a guest star this season. And Don is growing increasingly unsettled in the new arrangement at SC. He may have a contract that requires him to stay for a period of time, though.
But using regular TV logic, Peggy will stay at SC. Things are "neater" that way for the storyline. |

Don does not have a contract with SC. That was revealed last season, episode 11 I think. He is free to go out on his own, or work wherever he wishes, with nothing to prevent him from competing with SC.

Don was being wooed by a bigger firm in the first season. He used that to leverage a higher salary from Sterling, but said that if he left, it wouldn't be for advertising.

I'm not sure that Don does have a contract. When Don reacted unfavorably to Duck being the new president of SC, @ the meeeting w/PP&L, Duck said something like 'well he can honor his contract or go sell used cars.'
Don replied to the effect that he had only a handshake agreement. Whatever happened in the interim we don't really know...how Duck left, etc...but I suspect Duck left b/c the Brits forced him to, knowing that Don is the company. I like the above suggestion somewhere that Don should start his own firm. He can take Peggy, Sal, and Campbell and he'd be off to a decent start. Doesn't sound like Roger's very happy with the new arrangement either...maybe he'd jump too... |

You think Don should start a progressive advertising firm with a feminist, her snake of a Baby Daddy and a token gay?
No, if Don were to leave Sterling-Cooper, he should simply work from home. By himself. He could do it. And then he should invest all of his money in Microsoft. |

Don can’t leave SC and start his own firm because he now has a non-compete in his contact. When Duck was doing his power move at the end of season 2 he was crowing that Don would have to work for him or be out on the street because of the non-compete clause in his contract with SC.
Ducks drunken jaw dropped when Don said “I don’t have a contract” and walked. With the Brits buying SC and paying Don $500,000 they would have to put a non-compete in as part of the sale or what they would be buying would be worthless. On a side – Currently California does not enforce non-compete clauses in employment contacts only if it’s part of a sale like what happened to SC. My attorney friend advises everyone not to be intimidated by a non-compete in your contract and sign away as the employer has no legal recourse. |

Well, I think it's only logical that if Don walked, he'd take people with him, just like Duck is trying to do. You want to work with people you know and trust. And you are missing a point about Don, by calling Sal and Peggy 'the queer and the feminist' or whatever...
They are competent and talented. That's all Don cares about. Don has a very progressive attitude toward them both. He promoted Sal or however you want to look at it, after he saw him getting gay in B-more. Changing my theory though. SC must obviously stay together. As I just wrote somewhere else on here, I think Lane will still go to India, that Don will be the new president of Sterling Cooper, and that Peggy is going to get what she is looking for from Don, in the very least. |

Hmm well I guess now we know that Don is stuck at SC for at least 3 years, and likely Peggy will get what she wants there as well. The idea of Don starting his own company is great though, and would have been nice to see.
