Sooo what's with the ad Don tore out of the magazine, folded and put in his pocket? It looked a lot like Dons Cadillac, but I think it was a Pontiac.
Is Betty going to get a new Baby Blue car??? |

Some people like to snoop in people's medicine cabinets and some people like to vandalize magazines in hospital waiting rooms. Don is the latter kind. Don't read into it.

wasn't it an ad for a GTO or grand prix?
i assumed DD liked the ad and wanted to study it more in detail. |

It was an ad for a 1963 Pontiac Catalina. It appeared in the April issues of Life and Look magazines. Here's a link to a copy of it.
http://www.vintageadsands ... As far as I know there was nothing special or innovative about the ad, so I'm not sure what significance it could have for the show, other than Don being an ad man and being interested in it for some reason. |

General Motors had some darn attractive ads in the early 1960's.
i suspect, as an ad man, DD was admiring the style of the ad. |

It could be that the show's writer saw Don and Betty driving the car in the ad, so he threw it in as another one of the million subtleties in this show — Don envisioning happier times with Betty.
Here's a close-up detail of the ad.
