was she ever in the show?

betty seems a couple of cuts above her father in class, speech, and manners...i assume these personality traits came from her mother's side of the family?

I don't believe we ever saw her, apart from Betty's drug-induced dream, holding a bloody Medgar Evers, and saying, "See what happens when you speak out?"

From what I recall, Betty was pudgy as a child. Her mother was highly critical of her, placing beauty above all else in order for her to snag a rich husband, I suppose. Her father Gene, while not really refined, owned a thriving business. That's not to mean he was dumb, heck, he was having Sally read The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire. I'm not sure I could get through that tome.

There's an old saying that states, "Water seeks its own level."  Meaning a man has the best looking wife he can afford, and a woman has the richest husband her looks can attract.
