Another example of the amazing attention to detail employed in the creation of this brilliant show: the Tarot reading the original Mrs. Draper gives Don. I paused the DVD to check out what they had come up with, as I knew they weren't going to throw any old thing together. Sure enough, they had not. I've been reading cards for more than 20 years, and had to give it to them: they obviously consulted someone who knew what they were doing.
Here's the reading. Enjoy! Position 1: Present position The heart of the matter; or, the Inside. The Sun, reversed The joy and beauty of life have become clouded or corrupted. Trouble in paradise. Unable to feel or appreciate simplicity and goodness. Feeling unworthy to receive the gifts that have been given to you. Position 2: What crosses you An influence at cross-purposes to the matter; or, the Outside. Eight of Cups Abandoning an edifice carefully constructed. Leaving behind all you hold dear in search for deeper fulfillment. That which had satisfied no longer does. Position 3: Beneath you The basis of the matter. Underlying currents. Page of Pentacles Involvement and absorption in work. Examining one's world and one's efforts, and what one holds dear. Meditating on values. Position 4: Above you The ideal. What you're reaching for. Judgement Rebirth. Renewal. Forgiveness. Clean slate. A call from within to make an important change. The old self has already died; one must only heed the call. Position 5: Behind you The recent past. Three of Cups, reversed Joy upended. The failure of a friendship. Disillusionment at not being supported in a time of need. A parting. Position 6: Before you. The immediate future. Five of Swords Strife. Deceit. Underhandedness. A power play. An enemy makes his move. Position 7: Self Who you are in this matter. What you bring to the table. The World Success, achievement, satisfaction. Unification of the inner sense of being with one's outer actions. Position 8: House The environment in which you find yourself. Nine of Wands Defending one's place or position. The Wounded Warrior. A psychic wound. Battles fought, and more on the way. Position 9: Hopes and Fears The Wheel of Fortune Change. The vicissitudes of fate beyond one's control. Position 10: Outcome Eight of Wands Approach to a goal. You are on the right path. A decision made that will trigger swift movement. A journey approaches its end. Such fun! Yet another layer of authenticity to discover in this thoughtful, beautifully written show. I can't wait to pop in Season 3! |
