Is what I immediately thought when we saw them in the car in the garage and then all of a sudden Don had to wait up for them.
Too bad he didn't find two purple corpses, huh? |

I was thinking the same thing. How long before Henry sees Betty for the shrew she is?

Ha! Beneath the cool, connected front that is Henry, is a scared, abused mama's boy. Nice!

I think he's beginning to see. Momma knows best, after all.
Their relationship won't last the season. |

Did anyone else notice how he only wants Betty when he's just seen Don? Yet not when she's being a good wifey, all cozy in bed.

No, I didn't notice that.
But now that you mention it, Henry's always been the most forward with Betty when they've been in situations where he can steal away with her, like he's robbing the prom king of his queen or something. Neat. |

The carbon monoxide was exactly what I thought. Then I wondered if they would really kill Betty off in the season premier. Yikes!
The pure hatred that Betty and Don show to each other is exactly how my divorce went and continues even 15 years later. They sure have that part of it nailed. |

I bet that before the end of the season, Don and Betty will reconcile. She's going to figure out that Henry is a momma's boy, and that she wants to give the kids their father back. She'll swallow her pride and go back. Don will sorta promise to try to be a more faithful guy, which will be good enough for Betty.

why was his cheap, bottom of the line, "politically correct" ford in the garage and not betty's father's beloved lincoln?

Betty probably sold the Lincoln. It looks like, despite Henry's promise to take care of her, his public service job isn't keeping her in the style to which she'd become accustomed. They don't appear to have the cash to buy Don out on the house, and Henry's looking all the more like a worm because of it. I think the only reason Betty's still with him is her hatred of Don. It's her way of getting back at him.
Yeah, carbon monoxide was my first thought, too. For just one shining, glorious moment. But, lawnmowers aside, Mad Men never goes for the easy out. Funny that Mama thinks Henry married down. |

I believe Mama thinks Henry married down because now he'll be saddled with another man's 3 children ... and Henry is already starting to see what a drag that is.

I thought so too with the garage door shut! I also wondered about Henry's attraction to Betty wanning as he sees Betty's harsh attitude toward Sally. At the Thanksgiving table when Betty took Sally out of the room Henry looked upset and then as he was about to have a go around in bed with Betty, his attitude changed once she left to scold Sally. His attraction seems to have always been with an idea about her.

I, too, thought that they would die in the garage. I'm glad I'm not the only morbid one around here.
Actually, that would have been the perfect way to wrap up that story arc. What more do Henry and Betty have to say? Of course, it would have put a real cramp in Don's style if he was left alone to care for the kids (reminds me of Revolutionary Road). |

Don wants the children and they would be better off with him.
You are not the only morbid one, I thought Henry was trying some weird sadistic suicidal sex (he's a strange one...what you see is so not what you get) I hope Don does not take Betty back...I do feel she may go back begging. Hey does anyone remember Ms. Perfect cheating on Don with that guy at the bar? |
