Hi, am new here so go easy on me, please!
Season 4 ep 1: Just wondering if anyone else loved the Dorian Grey reference (in the newspaper article following the first Don Draper interview). I thought that was brilliant! Would love to hear people's insights on it... And, what's with all the Peggy-bashing here? I find her a delightfully complex character. Full of flaws, but consistently growing in various ways. Also, here's a newbie question for ya: how can I upload an avatar for myself? Thanks! I hope this will be a great place to discuss Mad Men! I've never joined a site to simply talk about a tv show before...which I hope says a lot about the quality of this program (though none of you know me...yet!), as well as letting you know that I'm still a bit of an innocent compared to you hard core vets here! See you around? P.S. By way of introduction, I'm a 40-something chick from Canada. Just old enough to understand some of the Mad Men era... |

Welcome!
I'm a 50 something chic so I was about the age of Don's daughter at that time. They have everything so right about the era. One of the best shows in years and yes, I loved the Dorian Gray ref. |

Be honest - you're just proud of yourself for catching the reference, aren't you?

Today is my first day here.
I am obsessed with Mad Men. Finally a good show with amazing writing. I am sooo glad you posted the reference to Dorian Gray Drapery. This is one of my favorite books ever! I suppose the metaphor for the aging picture of Dorian could be the box of secrets Betty discovered in Don's desk last season...Don's accolades from work and seemingly perfect marriage merely an appearance of happinesss. Richard Whitman's parentage and need to become Don Draper the aging picture. I love this show!!! |

@ Gaga: I had forgotten the box of secrets from the desk! Good point.
I just keep seeing all of the acts Don commits against his soul as the aging picture. |

Absolutely true Drapery. Don is really becoming undone without Betty and kids to complete his seemingly flawless display of the perfect life.
P.S. I'm a Canadian too lol |

Don was undone long before the split from Betty and the kids. It's just become more difficult for him to hide.
*waves hello to the Canadian with the killer Louboutins! |
