Having been a Creative Director, and now having my own freelance business, I find it awfully hard to believe that a fledgling agency would pitch JUST ONE concept to a company as big as Jantzen...Don Draper or not. That's just foolish. (And it wasn't even a great concept!)

I'm not ITB, but I have to agree there. Don knew what kind of company Jantzen was and wanted to be. He arrogantly pitched the one concept that they pointedly told him they did not want, and then told them to take it or take a hike. I'm not saying he wasn't correct in his assessment of their sales potential, but isn't the customer always right?
At the end of the episode, Don is starting to believe his own hype. That he's an advertising god, and he knows better than anyone else what is best for the client. I'm afraid he could be setting himself, and everyone else at SCD&L, for a big fall. |
