How do you like my avatar? Now whatever I post I will have an air of Paul ‘know-it-allness’ as if I were lecturing colored people on a bus how advertizing assists a Marxist agenda of redistribution while gesturing with my pipe.
A few fun personal questions: Which ManMen Character are you most similar to- Who would you like to have as a friend- Who would you want to have an affair with (a sexist creepy question but hey it’s 1962) I relate to Don the most. I came from a very poor upbringing in the mid-west. To this day a have a massive chip on my shoulder against trust fund brats and Pete Campbell types who’s parents paid for their cars/education etc.. I also did not finish college (community) and often feel like an imposter particularly at functions when associates quiz me on my non-existent degrees. A toss up on who I would like to be friends with – Peggy or Ken. I think Peggy because she’s such a good person and hasn’t begun to reach her potential so she’s a friend to grow with. As a successful metropolitan businessman in 1962 I would have Jet Setter Joy as my mistress. While Joan is the ultimate looking/acting sexpot, Joy proclaiming how much she likes sex and her penchant for skinny dipping makes her the obvious choice. At Joan’s core is a sad woman – it will take Joy another ten years to get that sad. |

I'd have to say I'm most like Midge, tempered with a bit of Peggy's reserve and her way with words. There's some Joan in me, too, but I think I've exorcized most of it.
I'd have a huge crush on Don and possibly even Roger, but wouldn't get involved with any of the men on the show. I can't say I'd be friends with anyone on the show, either. There's too much Midge in me to fit in with the main characters. Of course I could be friends with Midge, though. And possibly have an occasional coffee with Rachel or Bobbie Barrett—strong, self-made, intelligent women like Midge. But unless I'm the boss, I'm not up for the behaviors of office/sexual/class politics that drive most of the characters on the show. I'm more of a lone wolf. |

Adgal-
Coffee with Bobbie Barrett! How could you! She's so.... OLD! Geez what’s the deal with all the other Lounge Members – 150 views on this topic and no one else want to confess their darkest secret of who they are/relate to in MM. |

im most like joan. I'm known for my curves and have uncontrollable feminine sexuality, and i'm also conceided like her too apparently.
who i'd like as my friend would have to be sterling. or the character that peggy took his office i cant remember his name. i would totally have an affair with ken, just because physically he's my type. and he's got a boyish charm about him. __________________ ~joanie

OK - I'm probably the most like Harry, but there's a lot of inner Don in me. There are a cadre of skeletons in my closet, even though by most appearances, you'd most likely conclude that I'm following the safe course of least resistance.
Having said that, I'd love a tumble with Midge. I would be absolutely unable to resist the impulse to get to know better any woman who would call me under the pseudonym of Bix Beiderbecke or have a tea party accompanied by Miles Davis. Friends? While I could see hanging with all of SC gang (my favorite scene from Season 1 is where they're all twisting the night away) I really don't know who I'd be closest to... |

fine james, i'll confess!
as difficult as this is to admit, I'm most like Betty circa 2008, but I long to be like Peggy. I'm a working mom, husband, house, all the trappings that make Betty totally inward and nuts! But I long to be like Peggy, all about forging ahead, breaking down barriers and not conforming to anything society says. I'd love to be friends with Joan, shes totally honest and gives great advice. Plus she looks like a blast to shop with! HOT HOT HOT for Don. Something about his voice and his eyes and the whole package. I would totally bobby barrett him! |

"Geez what’s the deal with all the other Lounge Members – 150 views on this topic and no one else want to confess their darkest secret of who they are/relate to in MM." (James)
OK James you've shamed me into making my "confession." It does seem appropriate after the many confessions of Epi 13. And BTW I like your new avatar. Since you asked a "few fun personal questions:" Which ManMen Character are you most similar to? I relate most to Peggy, my avatar speaks for itself. Like her I was raised Catholic and am still haunted by the teachings of a faith I abandoned. Also like Peggy, I was driven to achieve self-worth through a career rather than marriage and family. Who would you like to have as a friend? Don. He's a great mentor, brilliant, loyal and ethical in his own way. I'd keep the friendship platonic because to fall in love with Don would lead to heartbreak. Kurt. I could do lunch with him and not worry about being the dessert. Besides he gives great fashion advice and knows about the coolest clubs and concerts. He'd be fun to hang out with outside the office. Who would you want to have an affair with (a sexist creepy question but hey it’s 1962) None of the guys at SC. I don't believe in mixing business and pleasure in that way. None of the clients are very appealing either. Maybe I'll find someone to consider in Season 3. |

Hmmm...I would say I am even split between Roger and Peggy if you can believe that. Talk about a contradiction. I say Roger because I'm just not that surprised by anything people do and kind of keep a "so be it sort of attitude" and Peggy, because in spite of everything, I remain optimistic.

Hi! I'm new here. Just watched MM (seasons 1 & 2) - love it!!!
I identify most with Rachel. I'm neither a businesswoman nor Jewish but an Asian woman in a very male-dominated field. I'm used to colleagues being openly uncomfortable dealing with me, and bringing up my ethnicity in a completely gratuitous manner. The "you people" comment, where Rachel is asked to voice the opinion of Jews, although her ethnicity is not a central part of her identity, resonates with me. I too am single, because my professional activities energize and fulfill me - in addition to being time-consuming. (I'm constantly asked "why aren't you married?".) Like Rachel, I'm interested in matters outside my field. (I loved it when she spoke about the dual interpretations of of "Utopia".) Also like Rachel, I'm stylish without being provocative. Plus, I have shiny, jet black hair and expressive, intense eyes, although my facial features are different. Oh, and I too decided upon my future career when I was a kid and spent a lot of time around my grandfather who had a similar occupation. Freaky number of similarities, huh? Although Don is not my type, I'd love to sleep w/ him. I'm not into alpha males, considering that all(?) of them I've met professionally have been dismissive of me, but Don has a mesmerizing presence that makes the other males in the show look like bumbling doofuses.
I'd like to be friends with Peggy. She's strong, smart and sincere. I liked her from the beginning. |

Yeah, Don is an enigma, a fabrication. But he is damn sexy... even though I hate him when I put myself in Betty's shoes. And, honestly, I would probably just roll my eyes at someone acting that suave and arrogant IRL. Although he's only that way because he ran away from his past and erased who he was before - that part is not attractive. I think it's the mystery and the confidence. I would go for an affair with Don, but not anything more... every time I see him playing his game it sends shivers down my spine.
Since I'm just starting my career in the real world, I definitely feel like a Peggy. I identify with her the most, and would like to move up as fast (although it's not realistic!) I think the biggest reason she got her job was because a female perspective of advertising was a niche that needed to be filled and the way she got it was totally random. As for friends, I would probably pick the nice ones, like Peggy. I loved her line in the last episode, "My name is Peggy Olsen and I want to smoke some marijuana." I'd love to smoke with her and "the guys" of the office... |
