For the non car people, this was probably what Lane was talking about
http://www.adclassix.com/ ... 9000rpm and a motorcycle with a body wrapped around it. I first heard of it during the 90's from the now defunct Sport Compact Car magazine. |

That tag line:
See it, try it, you'll love it--the Honda S600 sounds alot like Peggy's Popsicle ad. |

Someone from the actual Mad Men forums (the one that's super hard to navigate) said that it could be the N360.
I guess we'll know when (if) they do land the account. |

That would make sense, as the N360 had a motorcycle-based engine.

I think it was the S600 or the SM600. Probably the 1966 model. 57HP with a 9,500 RPM redline. Here is a video of Jay Leno restoring a 1964 SM600. 1964 SM600 - Jay Leno

Yeah, it's gotta be a sportscar. Sexier that way. Don wouldn't touch an econobox.

I remember in the ninth Tokyo Motor Show in October 1962, where the Honda S360 first made its official debut. The event saw a scarlet painted S500 was on exhibit along with metallic gray S360. Honda had already noted that the 360 cc engine was short of power and had assembled up a superior 492 cc version..

Thank you for the post for us "non-car" people, randedge! To paraphrase Joan, "it's so cute".
P.S. I think they did land the account, didn't they? Or are we still waiting to hear about that? It seemed like when Lane said something to Don about him being the "prince" that impressed the "princess" the most that they had it in the bag... P.P.S. I agree, randedge, yeah, sports car all the way. "Sexier that way. Don wouldn't touch an econobox." Perfectly said. |

The first Japanese car I can remember seeing looked like the N360 picture here (photo). We were amazed to see the tiny box out on the highway among all the big American sedans. SCDP is going to have to wait for their good impression on the Honda businessmen to pay off; Wikipedia says Honda cars were not imported to the US until 1969.

Don's not driving the car, just advertising it. He'll sell any product whether he uses it or not, tampons, floor wax, etc.
