Whoa! Can you just imagine how juicy things are going to get when Betty starts sharing her view of the world to the therapist?? Worth the price of admission!

Betty Draper – Best Mom Ever.. who never swung a coat hanger.
“I’ll chop your fingers off” the whole Freudian Pandora’s box will open when poor Sally is asked about the origins of her chronic/compulsive fingernail biting fetish latter in life. |

Pretty telling how Betty is only able to really vent once she sees a child Psychologist.

I am so excited to get inside Betty's head. And I'm wondering if she'll realize the damage she's done to Sally and Bobby. She's as childish as they are.
I have also entered the casting call contest since I'm so in love with the show. I would absolutely love the chance to be on it. If any of you would be kind and generous enough to vote for me, I'd be forever grateful. http://bit.ly/d5cb1O Thanks! |

Matt Weiner did this trick once before on The Sopranos. Tony and his wife met with a child psychologist to discuss their son's therapy, and he usurped the opportunity to talk about himself and his own problems.
With Sally in 1965, this might be slightly before pop psychology got into the "blame your parents for everything" phase. Who knows? This doc might subscribe to the earlier "institutionalization" school of thought for all "abnormal" children. Nothing a little shock therapy couldn't cure, right? |

The real doctor mentioned to Don that Betty was immature. In fact, probably Dr. Edna can infiltrate with Betty (Just for Sally’s sake) let’s see the outcome….

@ mneeley490:
Perfect use of the word "usurped"!
Dr. Edna didn't really strike me as the type to go down shock treatment road...Do you really think this is where things are going with her? Just curious as to your thoughts-- she seems quite astute when it comes to Betty, at least. In my opinion, Dr. Edna appears to be in line with the whole "blame the parents" school of thought. Just look at her office! However, she also gives the impression of being very sweet and compassionate, so perhaps she cares about the parents as well... |

@ tgcat:
Wait'll Dr. Edna gets her hands on Don! P.S. That little smile Betty gives when looking at the dollhouse...just what did she see? The fainting couch (hilarious, given the whole masturbation theme). Was that a glimpse of *gasp* happiness? Self-acceptance? What WAS that weird little smirk/smile? @ trishb: What about the damage that Don has done? Betty is not alone in her shortcomings here... Poor Sally, Bobby, and Gene. At least they have each other! And maybe Henry. haha. |

Why is Don seeming like the most sane one of the bunch? Hmmm...

Since the first episode this season I have thought that Henry doesn't think Betty is a very good mother. But I do think he is in love with her.
I think it was the first episode there was a scene with Betty & Henry in bed about to get intimate when Betty catches Sally on the phone and yells at her (saying some very immature things, of course). When she returns to bed Henry is all "I'm not in the mood". Later in the episode when they get in the car in the garage Henry jumps her bones. She is away from the house and kids and he can see her as the hot chick he is in love with. |

I think Henry has reservations about discipling children that aren't his own. Unusual for that time.
Contrast that with Sally's birthday party in the first season where a neighbor dad has no qualms about slapping an unruly kid that knocked over a vase in the Draper's house. When the kid's dad arrived, not only did he make the kid apologize to neighbor dad, he was told, "Go tell your mother to clean up this mess." |
