In one of the earlier seasons Roger Sterling said to someone his contribution to the firm was that he gave people like Don Draper a job at the firm. But am I right to think Roger never hired Don? I mean he probably never really hired Don but Don just turned up the day after Roger drank far to much so he had no recollecting of not hiring him?

I'm curious about that as well.  The last thing we hear Drunk-Roger say to Drunk-Don at the 10:00 AM boozefest was something like: "and you're a good fur guy.  I'm going to need one of those." as they're stumbling off to get Roger a cab.  The next morning Don tells Roger that Roger had said "Welcome Aboard". 

Did Don lie about that?  Or was it said off camera?  It looked like Don's "I'm being honest" demeanor to me... but who knows?

I loved this angle...Don running around accepting all the accolades, while RS stands in the background flashing back to when he was the big man and DD just a sales guy.  I definitely think that RS never hired Don, I replayed Don's smile twice, (he looks at Roger as the elevator doors are closing with an evil little grin) also, he looks up as if to say, "here I come".  Funny that he was also somewhat tricked into hiring a new, young guy.  I wonder if that guy will turn out to be crafty after all.
