OK - maybe my trolley has really slipped the tracks.
When the camera pulled back on Betty in the doctor's office, the complete shot reminded me of something but I could not think of what. Out of nowhere today, "Whistler's Mother" pops into my head. The large, gray shape, the dark moody room and the monochromatic background...have I lost it? |

nah, you haven't lost it. Your trolley hasn't slipped the track, jkerouac. The camera angle was awesome.
It was exactly like the camera pulling away from Bert Cooper and leaving him the isolated central figure in epi-12 (post BoD meeting). Both shots pull back slowly to expose a character totally alone, contemplating an uncertain, unexpected future. Kudos to whoever directs the camera work for the eerie feeling given to the viewer in both those shots. I didn't get any vibes of "Whistler's Mother" from the scene, but I totally relate that Betty sitting on the examination table at the doctor's office was a piece of art in its own right. 'Profoundly sad' to use the words of Arthur Case. |
