Seems last nights episode was the first without a musical selection to follow the closing scene. True? Significance? Change in the sea state of Don Draper? Any previous favorites among the music accompanying the closing credits?

I noticed this too, and found it significant although I don't yet know why.
I'm guessing it signifies a kind of turning point? I found it a little unsettling! As for previous favourites among the closing credits music, I always really like it when they play what I assume are original pieces by David Carbonara. I find them to be very atmospheric. |

Actually the thing that really caught my ear was that a good deal of the incidental music in this episode was used in at least one Merchant/Ivory film, "The Remains of the Day". It caught me off guard, but when I thought about the tone of the music when used in that movie, very dark and angst ridden, it fitted the tone of the scenes it was used in. I was pretty startled, and tickled, being a huge fan of Merchant/Ivory.

I thought of "Remains of the Day" also.
I think too that the lack of music at the end was definitely intentional and does signal a turning point. |

an apt closing theme would have been bob dylan's "the times are a-changin' "

Yeah, weird that there was no ending music. I wondered what the significance was of that, too.
I found it interesting that when Don exited the athletic club (and lights up a smoke) they played Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction". Seemed apropos for an ad man; Quote:
...the man comes on the radio He's tellin' me more and more about some useless information Supposed to fire my imagination... When I'm watchin' my TV and a man comes on and tells me How white my shirts can be But, he can't be a man 'cause he doesn't smoke The same cigarettes as me... |

rnch, I thought about that song too, in fact I was sure that it would be played at the end.
But, the creators of Mad Men are always at least 1 step ahead of us. It is a stellar season. |

I found the above list of madmen music. some good ones -- not all after the closing credits -- favor was the "16 tons" at the end of the 723 episode when Don is coerced into signing a contract by Betty, Roger and sterling Cooper. He returns from work, walks into the house and mutters to Betty that he signed, forsaking his cherished independence, and trudges dejectedly up the stairs to bed. A broken company man... Also bye-bye Birdie a classic |

I really noticed and liked the music at the end of The Suitcase. It had a "folk" kind of sound and made me think of Simon and Garfunkel. I have been looking for that song--I want it!!

Becky it probably made you think of Simon and Garfunkel because it was their song: Bleecker Street.

Thanks for music list. Knew every song and a lot of the lyrics. I like END OF THE WORLD, played right after Betty gave Don his walking papers.
