As I mentioned I produce political persuasion mail. During the busiest time of year I switched back and forth between the MMLounge and writing copy/layout. The lounge is a pleasant break from work.
The most memorable and enjoyable political pieces to produce are always the attack/negative ads. I know many people claim to hate them but they work and are necessary for the public to make an educated choice. The candidates who pledge only to produce positive ads are incumbents with a money advantage or a challenger that will out spend his opponent 3 to 1 and both are banking on so called independent expenditures to do the dirty work for them. Anyway here’s a piece I produced that ties into the main theme of MM; women as equals in the work place/society. We got very scant research on the opponent who had no real track record. For male candidates the cliché for someone with no experience is that he’s an “empty suit” attached to imagery of a suit on the floor or hanging up. There’s no parallel term for a woman that I know of. Maybe there is and being a man I've never heard of it or been on the recieving end of the comment. We walked up to the line on being sexist on the attack and used stock photos of a woman blowing bubbles. There was also a great quote that described her as an “airhead.” There’s something distinctly feminine about bubbles, as with an empty suit I don’t think this imagery would have worked as well against a man. It’s an oversized 8.5 x 11 postcard - http://www.biebercommunic ... |
