Kate Winslet is a marvel and Evan Rachel Wood as Veda in adulthood is the devil "herself". Guy Pearce the Australian actor who plays Monty, offers a vivid counterpoint to Mildred at both ends of her journey.
The HBO series give fresh expression to an age old primal fear: a mother's dread of being supplanted or destroyed by a daughter. I believe this has had many different reviews but after we watched it - we sat in silence for a moment and then said Fxxk! Despite reviews that were not glowing I was gobbsmacked by it all. Kate Winslet was stupendous as Mildred and the daughter Evan Rachel Wood as I said was disturbing. Well worth the watch. |

I loved the HBO version and Kate did an outstanding job.
Being an old movie fan, this is high praise from me. I love the old one too. They are really 2 different movies and I think I will think of them that way. both enjoyable in their own right. |
