Don and his wife were dining with His Boss and her wife
The wife was complaining about the insects and Africans They asked how long they had been married Each had a different answer why was that? NG |

That isn't exactly a sure thing. Remember, we didn't find out about Don's service record, mysterious past, or Adam Whitman's, "I knew I saw you in the window," line until the next season.
Talk about some long story arcs! |

Actually they were asked how long they had "been together", not how long they had been married. I expect Dons answer was to the "been together question" and Betty answered the time they had been married.
How long have you been together was not a common question in the '60s. One would more likely ask "how long have you been going together (dating), or how long have you been married. |

Interesting
Maybe the how long have you been together question was anachronistic Hate it when that happens I think you're right they were "together" for a different length of time than married So I'm wondering about the kids and the circumstances of their birth I Remember Don spent some time hanging around beat nicks a while back and while he was "corporate" He seemed fairly comfortable around that lifestyle which was one of the roots of the hippie "free love" movement that came just a short time late All the being said I would not be surprised if Don and his wife were "together" in some sense before marriage Thanks for sharing NG |

Knowing Don, as we have come to know him for his proclivity for "togetherness" I would have been surprised if they were not "together" in the real sense before their marriage.
However, Betty told her friend Francine that she was pregnant with Sally before she and Don were married. In the jargon of the time," they had to get married". |

How can you expect they remember the date when they so often forget they are married.
