So, I'm part way through S2. One of the fun aspects of watching the show, I'm sure for everyone, is knowing in general how things turn out, but not specifically for the characters in the show. . . E.g. the Nixon/Kennedy presidential elections, the girls idolizing Marylin Monroe, etc.
I'm sure I can't be the only one who, while watching the show, thinks about how many lawsuits would be thrown at Sterling Cooper today. Anyhow, so I'm part way through Season 2. I keep wondering when/if _The_Feminine_Mystique_ is going to make an appearance in the show? I can't possibly imagine that a drama like this could possibly avoid the feminist revolution of the 60's, or would even try to - it seems to be going out of its way to build up to feminism in almost every story line - from Don's wife, to Peggy and Joan, and many other smaller story lines. Today I went to Wikipedia and was reading more about The Feminine Mystique (I've heard about it, but never really read it), and the summary of the book on Wikipedia is kind of striking in it's similarity to Mad men - almost like Mad Men is a dramatic adaptation of the Feminine Mystique. |
